About Virginia Lee Burton

Virginia Lee Burton (1909–1968) was an American picture book author, illustrator, and textile designer from Massachusetts. She worked from the small village of Folly Cove near Boston and created many well-known picture books, including The Little House, CHOO CHOO, and KATY AND THE BIG SNOW.

The Little House, published in 1942, received the Caldecott Medal, one of the most recognized honors for American children's picture books. Burton also worked in textile and graphic design, bringing a distinctive visual style to her creative work.
