Koshinso is a perennial carnivorous plant native to moist rocks in mountainous areas of northern Kanto. Its Japanese name comes from Mount Koshin in Tochigi Prefecture, where the plant was discovered.

Makino's original illustration, dated June 30, 1901, delicately depicts the plant's pale purple flowers growing sideways, with slender flower stalks extending upward and curving gently.
