About Yuichi Inoue

Yuichi Inoue (1916–1985) was a Japanese calligrapher known for breaking away from the conventions of traditional Japanese calligraphy. Born in Tokyo, he worked as an elementary and middle school teacher before pursuing calligraphy under the guidance of Sokyu Ueda.

In 1952, Inoue founded the Bokujinkai group and developed an expressive style characterized by powerful, energetic brushwork. His works attracted international attention and were exhibited in Japan and abroad, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He created more than 3,000 works during his career.
