About Yuichi Inoue

Yuichi Inoue (1916–1985) was a Japanese calligrapher known for breaking away from the conventions of traditional Japanese calligraphy. Born in Tokyo, he worked as an elementary and middle school teacher before studying calligraphy under Sokyu Ueda.

In 1952, Inoue founded the Bokujinkai group and developed an expressive style characterized by bold, energetic brushwork. His work attracted international attention and was exhibited in Japan and abroad, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He left more than 3,000 works throughout his career.
